Principles of ORG Dirt Science

1. ORG Dirt Science promotes healthy plant life in a manner that is beneficial to human life and health, and specific to a particular human mode of living, with emphasis on the young and elderly and otherwise handicapped persons to fully enjoy the activity of growing plants with the least amount of financial expense and physical labor as possible.

2. Support of life in growing mediums for plants - from the smallest microscopic organism, to the mightiest living plant - is the focus of the principles that ORG promotes. How to plant and in what, is the primary emphasis, while providing the plant with what it needs to maximize harvests, whether that be human food or human appreciation of beauty and all the beneficial life forms that healthy plants support.

3. The objective is that EVERY plant is supported, to attain the MAXIMUM genetic growth that it is capable of achieving, without use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers. The difference between Thrive and just 'survive' in promoting and maintaining a healthy organic soil food web, along with clean water and air resources, with the health of our entire planetary ecosystem in mind.

4. Different plants have distinctive climate and habitat needs. While plant-specific dirt can be formulated and mixed to provide specific desired results under a given set of conditions, the principle of "right plant in the 'right place' at the right time" applies in all cases. Protecting and sustatining the diversity of land; local environments and creature habitats is of primary importance. In all cases, federal, state, and local laws must be complied with.

5. Planting media, especially using compost and compost tea can be made to meet specfic microbal population diversity and density goals. Understanding how microbes function and what the preferences are of certain plant groups - and how certain microbes go about the process of benefiting all types and kinds of plants in a sustainable fashion can be fun for some persons, but the majority of people just want to know how much of what works best. As a matter of principle, both perspectives will be presented.

6. The process and procedures involved in activites with regard to making functional plant-nutritious dirt, are matters that pertain to individual human mental capacity and physical capability to function appropriately, so it is the principle intention to say what needs to be said in a variety of ways in many places and provide numerous examples and offer multiple ways to accomplish such things whenever practical.

7. ORG Dirt Science attempts to encompass all major aspects of healthy plant growth, but does not involve design/use of certain plants in site specific landscapes, but rather focuses on formulation, mixing and use of planting mediums, amendments and mulches to promote healthy plants of every type and description. But not with regard to how such plants are placed, and for whatever aesthetic and functional use humans may contrive for plants. Plant health and harvests are of concern to Dirt Science, including companion plantings, but not the aesthetics of how various plants are grouped and function together within a particular landscape from a human perspective (i.e., color, combinations and mature height, spread, pollination, etc.). Such things are better left to experts in those particular fields of endeavor.

8. While it is a principle of ORG to promote education within the organic framework of making effective planting dirt; media for container plantings; composting and compost tea practices, along with organic gardening and rainwater harvesting, our focus is accompishing those functions through practical networking of small group resources in a local area, than building a world-wide industry. ORG views efforts to be a resource for leadership in education, and promulgation of practical experience, as the principle goal to support industries that utilize plants in the landscapes of the world.

9. Recognizing that the ORG Science of Dirt is still very much a fledgling activity, the initial objective of ORG is to provide research data, educational and practical instructional resources and advice to the public in general via this website, and in particular to those who desire to learn and participate with us.

10. ORG Dirt Science adheres to USDA National Organic Standards for organic growing, but does not entertain or consider, any "excluded methods" such as: intentionally genetically engineered/altered organisms or plants and their products.
